What I realized is that great underwear is awesome—and for me, well worth the money. I wrote about all of this in the story, Could This Be the World’s Greatest Underwear? But soon after the story was published, I got an email from Jeff Williams, who represents another Canadian underwear brand called 2UNDR. He wanted me to compare 2UNDR to Saxx, in an underpants smackdown.
I figured, why not?
A few days later, I received an email from Brian Schroy, who works for a company called MyPakage. He wanted to send me MyPakage underwear so that I could compare them to Saxx, too.
So he did, and then I did. And now I have the results. But first some details about each.
When 2UNDR arrived, I immediatley knew they would be good. They sent three types: Day Shift (great for work as they don’t ride up your leg), Gear Shift (designed for your workout), and Swing Shift (super soft). These included a variety of colors and designs. I found them to be incredibly comfortable, because of the fabric and the “Joey Pouch,” which holds your junk nicely in place while giving it room to breathe.
MyPakage also offers a wide variety of patterns and colors in their Weekday Boxer Brief product, and has a couple of lines (Action and Pro Series) created for sports and fitness activities. Plus, they have a feature called a “Keyhole Comfort Couch.” This allows for a very snug fit around your legs and hips, but with plenty of room for your Johnson.
The Keyhole Comfort Pouch is similar to what 2UNDR provides, but you literally steer your private part into the pouch, almost like putting a key into lock. An appealing or appalling side effect (depending on who’s looking) is that this maximizes your penile profile when your pants are off. (It’s not noticeable when your pants are on!) In fact, 2UNDR provides a bigger bulge as well, but from my experience, MyPakage wins the “enhancement” category by a hair.
Enough of the fringe benefits. Here’s my overall take: I’d wear any of the three products—2UNDR, MyPakage, or Saxx—on any given day. And I do. They’re all in the rotation. But if pressed to choose just one, I would go with 2UNDR. That’s the brand I tend to look for first when I open my underwear drawer.
The reason: For me, 2UNDR has the best overall fit, feel, and look. And after wearing and washing these for a few months, 2UNDR and MyPakage have held up the best.
MyPakage underwear does fit great, though. It’s soft and doesn’t ride upward. However, their Weekday Boxer Brief is longer in the leg than 2UNDR’s and Saxx’s boxer briefs. This longer brief isn’t my preference, although it may be for some guys.
As for Saxx, some of their products don’t have a fly, so if that’s a concern for you, make sure you choose a pair with “Fly” in the product name.
My experiment actually didn’t end there, as I received underwear samples from other companies, some of which you may have heard of, and others that you probably haven’t. But for me, these three brands are at the top of the list.
Bottom line: Each of these products ranges from about $25 to $40 a pair, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. If you have the luxury, try them all to see which one is the best fit for you.
As I told each of the brand representatives, I’m not really an underwear reviewer. I’m a guy who for years wore crappy underpants—figuratively speaking, of course—and then after experiencing some exceptional products, found that what I wear below the belt really does matter.
Oh, and for anyone that cares, I’m now in search of the perfect pair of socks.
